Robert Howard

ROBERT HOWARD  began cello lessons at age twelve in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his undergraduate study at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Graduate work was done at the San Francisco Conservatory, where he received an Artist Certificate in chamber music. Robert has performed at numerous music festivals including Tanglewood, Spoleto, Verbier, Accademia Chigiana in Siena and the Sandor Vegh Academy in Prague. In 1998, he toured Costa Rica as a member of the Arethusa Quartet. Robert is the winner of several competitions including the Rome Festival Orchestra Concerto Competition and the Berkeley Piano Club Competition. Principal teachers and coaches include Norman Fischer, Jean-Michel Fonteneau, and Paul Katz. Robert has performed in master classes for Lynn Harrell, Antonio Meneses, Bernard Greenhouse, and Yo-yo Ma.  He received a conterporary American cello by David Caron from the Virtu Foundation.
