Gabriel Platica
Gabriel is currently a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra where he also teaches at the University. He plays a violin by Oliver Radke. Gabriel began studying the violin at the age of 6 at the George Enesco school of music in Bucharest. At 11 Gabriel performed live on the Romanian television and at 12 he won the Bucharest Interpretation contest. Gabriel was later awarded a scholarship to study in England where he appeared on a BBC program dedicated to his performance of the Tchaikowsky violin concerto. Two years later Gabriel entered the Royal Northern College of music on a scholarship from Her Royal Highness, The Dutchess of Kent. In 1999 Gabriel came to the United States to study for a master degree during which he received the Joseph Gingold award. He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in violin performance at the University of Minnesota where he studies with Sally O'Reilly. He is also performing regularly with the Minnesota and the St.Paul chamber orchestras.
