Virtu Offered Challenge Grant for Inner City Baltimore Music Program1/27/2009A Charlottesville, Virginia, based family foundation has pledged $10,000 to benefit the year 2009-2010 music program at the New Song Center in Baltimore, Maryland, if the Virtu Foundation and others can match the grant. The New Song Center (see Scholar Profiles) is an inner-city school with a growing music program for elementary aged children. The Virtu Foundation has partnered with New Song to start, support and expand the school’s string music teaching program. Currently the program serves students in grades 2 through four. School founder and director Susan Tibbels has described her vision to expand the program to include a full-time music teacher so that every student in grades 1 through 8 would have access to music.
