Biography:
Jory Lane is a violinist and multi-instrumentalist from Colorado Springs, CO. Jory has studied the violin for twenty years, and has won numerous performance competitions and awards, including the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, the Eastman Violin Concerto Competition, the Broomfield Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Pikes Peak Philharmonic Concerto Competition, as well as the fourth prize in the Walnut Valley Festival National Mandolin Championship.
Jory is a dedicated orchestral violinist, having served as concertmaster for orchestras across the country, with tours to Japan, Germany, Prague, Australia, and New Zealand. He has performed with music directors including Antonio Pappano, JoAnn Falletta, and Andreas Delfs, in venues across the world, including Konzerthaus Berlin, Proms at Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, the Royal Concertgebouw, and the Elbphilharmonie. Jory served for four years as concertmaster and soloist for the Eastman Orchestras with conductor Neil Varon, and recently, he performed as concertmaster of the National Repertory Orchestra under the baton of Michael Stern, including their season finale performance of Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben.
As a chamber musician, Jory maintains an active schedule with his group, the Beca Quartet. Formed at Juilliard with violinist Messiah Ahmed, violist Aditi Prakash, and cellist Miles Goosby, the Beca Quartet was first featured in LA Philharmonic’s California Festival in collaboration with Juilliard alumni and composer Kris Bowers, and film director Ava DuVernay. Since then, the Becas have been featured on such stages as WQXR broadcasts and the Juilliard String Quartet seminar.
Jory has premiered works by composers including Kevin Puts and Chen Yi, and has performed in masterclass for such artists as Hilary Hahn, Jennifer Koh, Tessa Lark, and Midori. He recently performed in APM’s Performance Today Young Artist in Residency program with collaborative pianist Will Shi. Jory holds a Bachelor’s degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music under Renée Jolles, and is currently pursuing his Master’s at the Juilliard School under Laurie Smukler. Jory performs on a violin generously on loan to him by the Virtu Foundation.
